Zoning flap turns deadly
The week's news at a glance.
Granby, Colo.
A Colorado man with a grudge against Town Hall drove an armored bulldozer through Granby, Colo., last week, smashing more than a dozen buildings before fatally shooting himself. Marvin John Heemeyer, 52, had been seething for more than a year since the town allowed a concrete plant to expand around his muffler shop. Heemeyer welded steel plates onto a 53-ton bulldozer and rampaged through the tiny mountain town. He crashed through the cement factory and several other buildings, and reduced Town Hall to “a pile of bricks,” a witness said. “It’s amazing what one person can do,” Colorado Gov. Bill Owens said.
