Embarrassing find
The week's news at a glance.
Cartagena, Colombia
A stash of heroin and cocaine was discovered on the Colombian navy’s flagship last week, two days before the presidents of Colombia and Peru were to meet on board to discuss anti-drug policy. The drugs—37 pounds of cocaine and 22 pounds of heroin—were found in the three-masted ship’s engine room. Three sailors were arrested, and the entire 75-member crew was suspended. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe also ordered the ship, the Gloria, confined to port. Uribe said he would rather have it “rot in place instead of rotting the national honor.”
