Serial killer
The week's news at a glance.
Moscow
At least 10 young women were raped and killed in Moscow last month, and police suspect that the murders may be the work of one man. The methods of killing were not all the same. Six of the women were strangled, some by gloved hands, others with their own clothing. Four were beaten to death. But all of the victims were ages 18 to 32, all were sexually assaulted, and none were robbed. Russian newspapers have responded to the crime wave with advice for women walking alone in the city. “If you feel somebody looking at you, be brave and look straight back,” said the Moscow daily Izvestiya. “Maniacs are cowardly.”
