Girl released

San Jose
A kidnapper released a 9-year-old girl this week, two days after he snatched her from her house in San Jose and savagely beat her mother when she tried to stop him. A videotape from a neighbor’s security camera showed the man waiting in his car, then going inside when the girl, Jennette Tamayo, returned from school. When her mother and teenage brother arrived 30 minutes later, the intruder battered them with pots and pans, saying, “You know what I want.” Jennette’s mother said she feared her child was lost forever when the kidnapper drove off, and that it was “like the feeling of dying.” Police said publicity apparently frightened the kidnapper, and he released Jennette on the street. With the girl’s help, police found a suspect and charged him with kidnapping, rape, and other offenses.
