Ex-mayor accused of orgy
The week's news at a glance.
Toulouse, France
A convicted killer has accused a prominent French politician of having participated in sadomasochistic orgies. Patrice Alegre, who is serving time for murdering five prostitutes, said this week that former Toulouse mayor Dominique Baudis was a frequent participant at the violent, cocaine-fueled orgies Alegre used to organize. Alegre said he murdered some of the orgy participants under orders from public figures who feared the women would expose them. Baudis, now the head of a media-watchdog group, has asked for Alegre’s charges to be fully investigated, so his name can be cleared. He said his recent campaign to ban hard-core pornography from television has aroused the wrath of the porn industry, which is now trying to smear him.
