Parents react

Toronto
This week, in a wave of outrage after the dismembered body of a missing 10-year-old girl washed up on the shore of Lake Ontario, Toronto parents launched a campaign to crack down on sex offenders. Residents were outraged when they learned that more than 200 registered sex offenders lived within two miles of the girl, Holly Jones. A group launched a Web site, Hollyslaw.ca, calling for mandatory life sentences for child molesters. Holly disappeared last week while walking home from a friend’s house. Her body was found in several black duffel bags the next day. The killing shocked residents of Toronto, a city that prides itself as being a safe place to live. “We all have to live in fear until this person is caught,” Anotella Cruz, a mother of three, told the Toronto Star.
