Bin Laden calls for jihad
The week's news at a glance.
Islamabad, Pakistan
An audiotape delivered to the Associated Press this week purportedly contained the latest exhortation from Osama bin Laden, urging suicide attacks against the governments of Muslim countries that supported the war in Iraq. If the tape is indeed of bin Laden’s voice, it’s the first time he has advocated suicide attacks against fellow Muslims. The tape named Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Bahrain, and Kuwait as examples of governments that should be targeted by suicide bombers. “All of them have been imposed upon you,” the voice said, “and jihad against them is your duty.” The tape was delivered by an Algerian man who said he got it in eastern Afghanistan.
