Israelis kill U.N. worker

Israeli soldiers accidentally killed a British U.N. relief worker during a gun battle at the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank last week, prompting a U.N. investigation. An Israeli military report on the incident said that Palestinian gunmen were using the U.N. compound as a base from which to fire on Israelis. During an Israeli attack, British worker Iain Hook was mistaken for a combatant. U.N. spokesman Paul McCann dismissed the Israeli account. “We know who was inside the compound,” he said. “They were all civilians.”
