Toyota bZ4X review: what the car critics say
Toyota’s long-awaited electric crossover is comfortable and surprisingly agile off-road

Toyota’s long-awaited electric crossover is based on the new e-TNGA platform, said Autocar. At 4.7m long, it comes with either front- or four-wheel drive, both with a floor-mounted 71.4kWh battery. The two-wheel drive has a single 201bhp motor with a range of up to 317 miles; the four-wheel gets two motors for 215bhp total and up to 286 miles. Fast charging at up to 150kW takes 20 minutes for 80%.
With its dramatic creased rear spoiler and slim LED lights, the bZ4X isn’t bad looking, said The Daily Telegraph. Some of its rivals are faster, but this 2.1-tonne SUV is brisk enough, with a top speed of 100mph and 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds. The brakes are strong and smooth, and the all-electric drivetrain makes it surprisingly agile off-road. Soft suspension copes with lumps and bumps and the steering is well weighted.
The bZ4X is super-comfortable with plenty of space inside and a sporty little steering wheel, said Auto Express. There’s ample legroom in the back, plus a decent 412-litre boot, though weirdly no glovebox or rear wiper. Solidly made, it comes with lots of tech, including a high-set instrument binnacle with digital display and an infotainment screen, plus smartphone connectivity and wireless charging. UK price from £43,780.
