1. HORSEMEAT FOUND IN TESCO BURGERS
Horse DNA has been found in beefburgers being sold by Tesco, Aldi and Lidl following tests by Irish food safety authorities. Horsemeat made up 29% of a sample from Tesco. The burgers were made at two plants in Ireland and at the Dalepak Foods plant in Yorkshire. The BBC reports that Dalepak is holding continental suppliers responsible.

2. JAPAN GROUNDS ALL BOEING DREAMLINERS
Japan's two main airlines last night grounded all their Boeing 787 Dreamliners following an emergency landing of an All Nippon Airways flight because of a battery fault. All 137 passengers and crew were evacuated in the latest blow to Boeing's troubled plane. ANA immediately grounded all Dreamliners. Japan Airlines followed suit.

3. ATTACKS ON ALEPPO UNIVERSITY KILL 87
More than 80 are reported dead following two explosions yesterday at the University of Aleppo in Syria on the first day of exams. Rebels blamed government airstrikes, while state television said "terrorists" had launched rockets at the campus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the death toll at 87.
4. PAUL MCGINLEY MADE RYDER CUP CAPTAIN
Irish golfer Paul McGinley has been named as captain of the European team for the 2014 Ryder Cup challenge at Gleneagles. The Times calls it "one of the most coveted positions in the game of golf". The US team will be captained by Tom Watson. "I'm relishing the thought of taking on one of my great heroes," said McGinley.
5. PILOT OF CRASH HELICOPTER NAMED
The pilot who died when his helicopter crashed into a crane in Vauxhall, London this morning has been named as 50-year-old Captain Pete Barnes. Two people died and 18 were injured when the aircraft hit the crane and exploded in a ball of smoke and flame. More than 60 firefighters attended the scene and pulled a man from a burning car. Traffic in the area was brought to a standstill, but the fires were under control by 10am.

6. FRANCE BATTLES ISLAMIST REBELS IN MALI
French troops have engaged Mali’s Islamist rebels in street battles in Diabaly, a town about 350km north of the capital Bamako. The town was captured by the rebels on Monday and French and Malian forces are fighting together to re-take it. The French forces include legionnaires from the southern French town of Orange who are experts in desert warfare.

7. OBAMA TO ANNOUNCE GUN CONTROL PLANS
President Barack Obama will be flanked by children who survived the Sandy Hook school massacre when he outlines plans for gun control at the White House today. Measures will include a renewed ban on assault rifles and stricter background checks. Significantly, he could make 19 'executive orders' circumventing Congressional opposition.
8. FACEBOOK'S 'GRAPH SEARCH' DISAPPOINTS
Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg yesterday unveiled a search engine he called "graph search" for content shared by Facebook friends. But technology analysts described the new tool as "underwhelming" and even Zuckerberg said he "did not expect" people to flock to Facebook for internet searches.

9. BLOCKBUSTER IS LATEST RETAIL CASUALTY
The dire state of Britain's retail market has claimed another casualty: DVD rental firm Blockbuster. The company is the latest high street retailer to go into administration after fighting a losing battle against internet competitors. The chain, which employs 4,190 staff at 528 stores, will keep running while the administrator tries to find a buyer.

10. HOT TICKET: NADAV KANDER'S BODIES
An exhibition of nudes, 'Bodies. 6 Women, 1 Man', by the documentary photographer Nadav Kander, has opened at Flowers Gallery, London. Israeli-born Kander references classical statues and religious iconography in photographs of men and women coated in marble dust against a darkened backdrop. "Stunning," says The Independent.
