1. POLICE TO INTERVIEW RUPERT MURDOCH

Media baron Rupert Murdoch has been informed Scotland Yard wants to interview him as a suspect over allegations of crime at his UK newspapers, The Guardian reports. Detectives first contacted the Australian last year but agreed to his lawyers’ request to wait until the phone hacking trial was over.

2. FIRST USA ‘ADVISER’ TROOPS REACH IRAQ

The first American troops deployed to “advise” the Iraqi army as it faces the threat of Sunni militants Isis have arrived in the country and begun work, the US has said. Nearly half of 300 special operations soldiers which the US insists are not intended as operational forces are in Baghdad or on the front line.

3. SCOT TO HAVE BOTH HANDS TRANSPLANTED

A woman from Renfrewshire is to become the first person in the UK to be given two donor hands in a double transplant - and only the second person in the country to have any sort of hand transplant. Corinne Hutton lost both hands - and both feet - last year after a pneumonia infection led to blood poisoning.

4. MURRAY MARCHES ON AT WIMBLEDON

Andy Murray marched into the third round of Wimbledon in spectacular fashion as he demolished Slovenian Blaz Rola in just 84 minutes on Court One. The defending champion lost only two games as he beat the world No92, playing his first grass court season, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Murray has now won nine matches in a row at Wimbledon.

5. US WORKS TO ENSURE MERIAM SUDAN EXIT

The US is working with the Sudanese authorities to ensure a Christian woman, Meriam Ibrahim, who was sentenced to death row in the Muslim country for apostasy, can leave Sudan after she and her husband, who is a US citizen, were stopped at Khartoum airport over their travel documents.

6. FIFA INVESTIGATES SUAREZ ‘BITE’ INCIDENT

World football’s governing body is to open disciplinary proceedings against Uruguay and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, who appeared to bite Italy defender Georgio Chiellini during a World Cup match yesterday. Chiellini showed the referee a ‘bite mark’ but no action was taken. Uruguay won 1-0.

7. PARLIAMENT MUST CONSIDER RIGHT TO DIE

Right to die campaigners have lost their appeal case over assisted suicide at the UK Supreme Court, but the judges' ruling puts the onus on Parliament to clarify the law. The panel of nine Supreme Court Justices turned down a challenge to exising laws but said they were doing so partly “to enable Parliament to consider the position”.

8. JUDGE REBUKES PM OVER COULSON APOLOGY

The judge in charge of the phone hacking trial has rebuked David Cameron for commenting on Andy Coulson's guilty verdict while the jury was still out. He said the PM's comments were "regrettable" and "unsatisfactory". Cameron's former press chief was found guilty of conspiring to hack phones on Tuesday, but the jury was still considering its verdict on other charges.

9. WONGA MUST PAY FOR FAKE LEGAL LETTERS

Payday loans lender Wonga has been ordered to pay millions in compensation after it was found to have sent letters threatening legal action to customers in arrears from fake law firms, sometimes charging legal fees. Wonga has agreed to pay £2.6m to about 45,000 customers after the FCA watchdog discovered "very serious" misconduct.

10. HOT TICKET: JANACEK AT GARSINGTON

A new production of Leos Janacek's The Cunning Little Vixen has opened at Garsington Opera, Wormsley. A forester is forced to reflect on love, life and death after taking a wild vixen cub home as a pet. "Superb," says The Guardian. Until 12 July.
