1. ROLF HARRIS VISITED BROADMOOR WITH SAVILE

The NHS has confirmed that entertainer Rolf Harris - yesterday found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault in the 60s, 70s and 80s - once visited Broadmoor hospital as a guest of the prolific abuser Jimmy Savile. Meanwhile, police say they will look at fresh allegations about Harris which have emerged.

2. ISRAEL TO AVENGE MURDERED TEENAGERS

Israel has said it will make Hamas “pay” for the murder of three teenagers. Naftali Frenkel, Gilad Shaar and Eyal Yifrach went missing a fortnight ago. Their bodies were found late last night in a pit in the town of Halhul. Hamas said Israel was using the abductions as an excuse to wage war on Palestinians

Hamas and Israel call truce amid high tensions in Jerusalem

3. IRAQ: FRESH FIGHTING AROUND CITY OF TIKRIT

More clashes between Sunni Isis rebels and Iraqi government forces, and a wave of air strikes, have been reported around the northern city of Tikrit, a day after the rebels announced the creation of an Islamic caliphate. In Baghdad a parliamentary session designed to elect new leaders collapsed in chaos.

4. SARKOZY ‘HELD’ FOR CORRUPTION PROBE

Ex-French president Nicolas Sarkozy is being held and questioned as part of a corruption investigation, Reuters says. A source told the news agency that Sarkozy had been “summoned to Nanterre [near Paris] and is being held for questioning”, an unprecedented step to take against a former president.

5. CRACK MAYOR FORD: REHAB SAVED MY LIFE

Toronto’s crack-smoking mayor Rob Ford has acknowledged the extent of his drugs and alcohol problems publicly for the first time, telling an audience that staff at a rehab centre he attended for two months saved his life. Saying he had been in denial about his problems, Ford apologised to the city.

6. POLICE TO INTERVIEW MADELEINE SUSPECTS

A team of British police officers who dug sites in Praia da Luz for clues in June have returned to Portugal to sit in on interviews with a key witness and several suspects in the 2007 disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Portuguese officers will ask the questions. The suspects will attend “of their own free will”.

7. UKRAINE PRESIDENT ENDS TEN-DAY CEASEFIRE

Ukraine’s president, Petro Poroshenko, has ended a ten-day unilateral ceasefire with pro-Russian rebels in the east of the country, saying: “We will attack, we will free our land.” Both sides have accused each other of violating the truce. Poroshenko said the “criminal activities” of the militants were the problem.

8. WOMEN SIDELINED IN RADIO 5 SHAKE-UP

Popular Radio 5 presenters Richard Bacon, Victoria Derbyshire and Shelagh Fogarty are to leave the station as part of a shake-up. TV football presenters Adrian Chiles and Dan Walker,and former Sunday Sport editor Tony Livesey, get more high-profile roles and Eleanor Oldroyd will be the only woman at the station with her own show.

9. EUROPE UPHOLDS FRENCH BAN ON NIQAB

A French ban on wearing the Muslim Niqab face veil has been upheld by the European Court of Human Rights. The law had been challenged by a 24-year-old woman who claimed it was a violation of her freedom of religion and expression. But judges said the 2010 ban was fair as it was based not on beliefs but a desire to be able to see the face.

10. HOT TICKET: REBOOT FOR 'EXCITING' CAROUSEL

A revival of the classic American musical Carousel has opened at the Arcola theatre, London. Luke Fredericks directs the 1943 musical with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. This production shifts the story from its original 1870s setting to the 1930s and 40s. Runs until 19 July.
