1. Trump backs down on child migrant separations
US President Donald Trump yesterday signed an order ending the practice of separating the children of illegal migrants from their parents at the border. It is not retrospective, however, and does not reunite families who have already been split up. The practice had increased drastically under the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards migrants.
2. New Zealand leader Jacinda Ardern has baby girl
New Zealand’s Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has given birth to a healthy baby girl weighing 7.3lb. Ardern was admitted to an Auckland hospital on Thursday, four days after her due date, and has passed her official duties to her deputy for six weeks of maternity leave. The 37-year-old is only the second world leader to give birth in office.
3. UK concern at planned meeting for Trump and Putin
The news that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are planning to meet during the US president’s visit to Europe next month is “causing alarm” in Whitehall, The Times says. According to the newspaper, the prospect of the meeting is adding to fears that Trump is not committed to Nato, seen as a key defence against Russian expansionism.

4. Staff of charity MCF ‘used local prostitutes’
Staff of the global charity Medecins Sans Frontieres have used local prostitutes in African countries, the BBC has been told. A whistle-blower said that the behaviour was widespread and that it was possible to barter medication for sex. The staff involved are logistics workers, not doctors or nurses, some of them quite senior, the whistle-blower claimed.
5. Add ‘deepfake porn’ to upskirting ban, expert urges
An academic who specialises in online sexual abuse is urging the Government to add a provision that makes “deepfake” pornography a crime to its bill banning the taking of photographs up women’s skirts without their consent. Clare McGlynn, a law professor at Durham University, says new software can be used to put someone’s face on the body of a porn actor in a video clip.
6. Thousands watch solstice sunrise at Stonehenge
Almost 10,000 people watched the sun rise at the neolithic monument Stonehenge this morning, to greet the longest day of the year. The solstice is one of the few occasions on which English Heritage allows the public to walk between the massive stones. Wiltshire Police mounted an armed patrol at the event, a security measure that was introduced in 2017.
7. Untested cocktail of drugs for Nevada execution
A multiple murderer is to be executed in Nevada next month using a previously untested combination of drugs. Scott Raymond Dozier will be the first person put to death in the state since 2006. The 47-year-old has previously said he wishes to be killed for his crimes and does not care whether he feels pain as he is put to death.
8. No more air-punching for England manager Southgate
England football manager Gareth Southgate has been told by doctors that he must not punch the air in celebration during the World Cup, after he dislocated his shoulder while out running near the team’s Russian training ground. The 47-year-old, whose arm is in a sling, said: “I might not be celebrating any goals as athletically in future.”
9. Jurassic World’s lesbian reveal cut from film
The moment when a character in new dinosaur movie Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom revealed herself to be gay was cut “for the sake of time”, actor Daniella Pineda has revealed. Pineda plays a vet who was originally scripted to tell leading man Chris Pratt: “Square jaw, good bone structure, tall, muscles. I don’t date men, but if I did, it would be you.”
10. Briefing: Prince Louis’s christening
Kensington Palace has announced details of Prince Louis’s christening.
It will be the first royal engagement for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s youngest child, who was born on 23 April and is fifth in line to the throne.
