1. Trump fires Attorney General Sessions

US Attorney General Jeff Sessions has been fired by Donald Trump. Following the announcement yesterday, the US president tweeted: “We thank Attorney General Jeff Sessions for his service, and wish him well!” Matthew Whitaker, who served as chief of staff to Sessions, has been named as the acting attorney general. Whitaker is described by analysts as a “compliant replacement” who may end the investigation into Russian collusion.
