Today’s front pages: baby, baby, baby, mass extinction event, baby, baby
A round up of the headlines from UK newspapers on 7 May

No prizes for guessing which news story makes the front page of every newspaper this morning. No, not the threat of extinction for one million species thanks to human activity, but the arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s first child - a boy, if you hadn’t heard.
The Daily Mail devotes 23 pages to the unnamed, unseen individual, while a beaming Prince Harry is ever-present across the broadsheets and tabloids. The Daily Express, in its “Royal Baby Souvenir Special”, has the latest on the new royal, including his weight, a very healthy 7lb 3oz.
Elsewhere, there is some coverage of the worrying UN report on species extinction, with The i splashing on a picture of one of the creatures at risk. The Guardian highlights a key quote from one of the report’s authors who said that human society itself is under threat by the development: “We should have gone to the doctor sooner, we’re in a bad way.”

It is left to the Financial Times to highlight some of the world’s other stories this morning, with the business paper reporting that US President Donald Trump’s threat to ramp up China tariffs has unnerved the world markets.
