Video: Lionel Messi’s Getafe goal voted Barcelona’s best ever by fans
Argentine takes No.1, No.2 and No.3 spots in poll of 500,000 Barca supporters
A poll to decide the best ever goals in FC Barcelona’s history has seen Lionel Messi take a clean sweep of the top three positions.
The BBC reports that more than 500,000 votes were cast by Barca fans from 160 countries. Barcelona’s best goal poll started with 63 contenders - of which ten were scored by the brilliant Argentine.
In the final four vote Messi claimed the No.1, No.2 and No.3 positions while Sergi Roberto’s dramatic last-minute strike against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in 2017 took fourth position.

The vote to decide Barcelona’s best ever goal was won by Messi’s strike against Getafe in the 2006-07 Copa del Rey semi-finals. Winning 45% of the vote, the goal against Getafe saw Messi pick the ball up inside his own half before dribbling his way through the defence to shoot home.
The Barcelona website said: “The uncertainty is over. The best goal in Barca’s history according to the fans is Lionel Messi’s spectacular slaloming run against Getafe in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey 2006/07. The goal from the No.10 took the crown ahead of 63 other goals in a competition that started at the end of December 2018, and that has seen more than 500,000 votes cast in the past three months.”
Number two on the poll, with 28% of the votes, was Messi’s 2014-15 Copa del Rey final goal against Athletic Bilbao. And third, with 16%, was the Champions League El Clasico strike against Real Madrid in 2010-11. Roberto’s goal against PSG won 11% of the vote.
