Pep Guardiola is gearing up to beef up his back four next season by making a swoop for two defenders, reports The Sun.

The paper says that the Sky Blues boss has his eyes on Juventus star Dani Alves and Kyle Walker of Tottenham, and he is confident of landing both men in the coming weeks. Guardiola knows Alves well from his time in charge of Barcelona and apparently he "wants his winning mentality in his dressing room".

The pair won six La Liga titles and three European Cups at the Camp Nou and, according to the Sun, Alves "has indicated he is willing to leave Juve this summer."

Tottenham and Chelsea are also tracking the Brazilian but it's believed Guardiola is in pole position on account of his friendship with the South American stopper, and according to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Man City are ready "to offer roughly €6m (£5m) to secure the services of the 34-year-old".

As for the 27-year-old Walker, the Sun says it's his versatility that has caught the attention of Guardiola and he believes the England defender - who can play at left or right-back - is one of the best in the business.

With Pablo Zabaleta, Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna all leaving the Etihad this summer, City's defence is depleted but the arrival of Alves and Walker will signal a fresh start for the new season, and the Sun says that Guardiola is also considering making a play for Benjamin Mendy, the Monaco left-back who impressed during their charge to the French title last season.
