Elderly couple discover ‘gorgeous pate’ is cat food
And other stories from the stranger side of life
A woman says she “howled with laughter” after her elderly parents asked her to buy them more “gorgeous pate”, which turned out to be cat food. Angela Holloway, who has been shopping for parents throughout the pandemic, was confused when her mum told her they had eaten “a really lovely dinner of absolutely gorgeous pate and baked bread”. It was only when they showed their daughter the tin that the error became apparent. Holloway said: “Honestly I nearly wet myself.”
Man fasts for a Lamborghini
A man who thought that God would give him a Lamborghini if he fasted for 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness almost died. Mark Muradzira, of Risen Saints Church in Zimbabwe, hid out in remote mountain country to prevent him from being tempted to eat. Concerned friends found him after 33 days and took him to hospital. His church leader Bishop Mawuru said: “He should at least have fasted for a job since he is unemployed.”

New robot cooks paella
A Spanish company has developed a robot that can cook paella. It has an electronically controlled stove and a mechanical arm which puts the sauteed ingredients over the paella pan, adds the rice and then stirs it with a spoon before adding the fish stock. “Our goal is to travel around the world and be able to eat the same rice that we eat in our country, in a different country,” said a spokesman.
