Flamingo spotted 17 years after escaping zoo
And other stories from the stranger side of life

An escaped flamingo has been spotted 17 years after it flew away from zoo in Kansas. The flamingo, who has been nicknamed Pink Floyd, was seen at Rhodes Point, a cape located in the eastern part Calhoun County, Texas. It was walking on a strip of land in the cape’s Cox Bay, near Port Lavaca. Pink Floyd and another flamingo escaped from their enclosures after a storm hit their zoo in June 2005.
‘Magnetic turd’ could be used in humans
Scientists have created a “magnetic turd” that could be used in human digestive systems, according to the New Scientist. The slime, which is controlled by magnets, could be used inside the body to perform tasks such as retrieving objects swallowed by accident. Professor Li Zhang, of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said: “The ultimate goal is to deploy it like a robot.”
Activist glues himself to radio mic
A climate activist has glued his hand to a microphone during a radio interview about protests at oil terminals. Nathan McGovern, 22, told LBC presenter Tom Swarbrick that he was taking the action because the station was not using its “massive platform” to warn its listeners about the climate crisis. “Every new oil and gas facility tightens the noose around the necks of our young people,” he said.
