Pigs are big on conflict resolution
And other stories from the stranger side of life

Pigs regularly step in to break up fights, found a new study in the Animal Cognition journal. The researchers discovered that when conflict breaks out between two pigs, a third pig will intervene and appear to smooth over the problems. The researchers spent hours observing the lives of 104 free range pigs at Parva Domus, a farm in Italy. Previous studies have found that pigs have an intelligence that is comparable to dogs.
Toddler freed from toilet seat
Firefighters had to free a toddler who got her head stuck in a toilet seat as an evening of potty training went wrong. Kay Stewart, 37, had been hoping to potty train her two-year-old daughter Harper at their home in Wallsend, North Tyneside but the toddler decided to try to wear the seat around her neck and got into difficulty, pleading: “Mammy, I’m stuck.” Following the successful lavatorial liberation, “Harper gave the firefighter a big hug”, said Kay.
Tallest woman makes first plane trip
The world’s tallest woman was able to make her first journey on an airplane after an airline removed six seats. The Turkish woman, who stands at 7 feet, 0.7 inches tall, had never flown before her ride from Istanbul to San Francisco, said Fox News. “This was my first flight, but it certainly won’t be the last,” Rumeysa Gelgi wrote on Instagram of her flight on Turkish Airlines. “A heartfelt thank you to every single person involved in my journey.”
