Britain took a big step forward this week towards achieving Boris Johnson’s promised “world-beating” status in tackling the Covid pandemic, by becoming the first country to approve the Pfizer/BioNtech coronavirus vaccine for general use.
The government has already ordered 40 million doses of the jab, amid hopes that a mass inoculation programme will finally spell the end of virus-related economic strife and restrictions on liberties.
As health bosses prepare to roll out the vaccine, the government is now reportedly planning to enlist the help of “sensible celebrities” for a major campaign aimed at countering anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories that may put people off having the jab.

Need a reminder of some of the other headlines over the past seven days?
Elsewhere in Europe, warnings have emerged that Emmanuel Macron will use France’s veto in the European Parliament to block a Brexit deal if Paris is unhappy with the terms of the future trade treaty.
Perhaps Hungarian MEP Jozsef Szajer was trying to take his mind off the negatiations when he attended what the right-wing politician has described as a “private party” in Brussels.
But Szajer - whose ruling Fidesz party has enacted repressive anti-gay legislation - was forced to resign from the European Parliament this week after being busted along with 24 naked men at the alleged orgy, by police called to investigate reports of a breach of Belgium’s Covid-19 curfew.
Over in the US, Donald Trump is reportedly hoping to keep his children out of hot water by issuing pre-emptive pardons for them before departing the White House, after daughter Ivanka was interviewed under oath over the alleged misuse of his 2017 presidential inauguration funds.
In more light-hearted news, remember that metal monolith that turned up in Utah last week? Well, now another one has appeared on a hillside in Romania.
Where the next one will pop up is anybodies guess, however.
