The release of the Pandora Papers threatened to overshadow the Conservative Party conference this week after major Tory donors found themselves implicated in the massive leak of financial data.
Some of the most serious revelations concerned Mohamed Amersi, who has donated more than £500,000 to the Tories since 2018.
Revelations in the documents link Amersi to a deal between Swedish telecoms company Telia and an offshore company owned by the daughter of Uzbekistan’s former president, a deal later described by US authorities as a “$220m (£161.3m) bribe”. Amersi has denied any wrongdoing.

Johnson’s first in-person conference speech since his 2019 election victory was met with mixed reactions.
He pushed his vision for a new post-Brexit economic model, promising that his government would oversee the introduction of “high-wage and high-skill employment”. But business leaders were quick to attack the speech, with one Conservative thinktank describing it as “vacuous”.
