Boris Johnson this week received another shattering blow to his premiership after the loss of the ultra-safe North Shropshire seat to the Liberal Democrats.
The West Midlands constituents chose Lib Dem candidate Helen Morgan as their new MP in a shock win that saw North Shropshire elect its first non-Conservative MP in almost 200 years.
Morgan won the rural constituency in a by-election that was triggered by Conservative MP Owen Paterson resigning from his post following a parliamentary lobbying scandal. At the last general election, the former minister won almost 63% of the vote in the historically safe seat, beating second-placed Labour by nearly 23,000 votes.
