The body of Kosta Karageorge, a 22-year-old Ohio State University football player reported missing Wednesday, was found in Columbus on Sunday, police said.
Karageorge was discovered in a dumpster a few blocks away from his apartment with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound, says Sgt. Rich Weiner, spokesman for the Columbus Police Department. He was identified by his tattoos, and a handgun was also discovered in the dumpster, but police say they are not sure if it belonged to Karageorge.
Karageorge was a defensive lineman reserve player for Ohio State, and appeared in one game this season, NBC News reports. He was also a wrestler. Karageorge's mother told NBC affiliate WCMH that her son suffered from concussions, and that before he disappeared he sent her a text apologizing for being an "embarrassment" because of his concussions.
