Megan Brennan will take over for outgoing Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, the United States Postal Service announced on Friday.

Brennan began working for USPS as a letter carrier in 1986 and she rose to chief operating officer in 2010. She will be tasked with leading an agency that reported a $5.5 billion net loss for the 2014 fiscal year.

"As the head of operations, Megan has led important initiatives to provide Sunday delivery services, improved tracking, and greater predictability and reliability," Mickey Barnett, chairman of the Postal Service Board of Governors, said.
