Directly contradicting the NFL's line that it was not until Monday that league executives saw the video of Ray Rice knocking his wife unconscious, a source tells The Associated Press that local law enforcement did in fact send the league a copy of the tape in April.
The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible." [Associated Press]
The report comes hours after commissioner Roger Goodell doubled down on his assertion that no one in the league office had seen the tape until Monday. Goodell also insisted the league repeatedly tried to obtain the tape to no avail.
