2 foreign aid workers killed in Afghanistan

Afghan officials reported that two foreign aid workers were shot and killed on Thursday morning.

According to The New York Times, the two were female employees of an international aid organization, which the Kuwait News Agency identifies as the International Assistance Mission, a Christian group that has worked in Afghanistan since 1966. They were shot in the western city of Herat.

The Finnish women were reportedly traveling in a taxi when two motorcyclists opened fire, the Associated Press reports. Sami Wafa, an aide to the Herat province's governor, told the Times that they are currently conducting an investigation, and there have been no arrests thus far. Herat police spokesperson Raouf Ahmadi told the AP that the taxi driver has been detained, however. --Meghan DeMaria
