Utah will appeal to the Supreme Court a ruling that struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage, Utah's Attorney General's office announced Wednesday. The state could have appealed the ruling to a lower court, but it chose to go straight to the top instead.
The high court does not have to take the case, of course. But given the wave of court rulings in the past year that have struck down similar bans nationwide, it seems like the Justices will sooner or later have to weigh in on the issue in greater detail than they did last year.
