Community is getting a sixth season after all
Time to break out that dusty old #sixseasonsandamovie hashtag. Just when it seemed like Community fans had entered the darkest timeline, a new season has been picked up by the most unexpected of sources: Yahoo.
The announcement comes less than a week after Hulu abandoned plans to revive the series, and mere hours away from the moment at which the cast's contracts were due to expire. So what happened? Yahoo saw a key opportunity to make a splashy entry into the online streaming field that has been all but conquered by Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon.
Happiest of all, Yahoo doesn't plan to meddle with the series in any of the ways that enraged fans during its five-season run on NBC. Dan Harmon will return as showrunner, and Vulture reports that the sixth season — despite premiering online — will be produced under a budget that won't be "dramatically different" than the one it had on broadcast television.
