Willis Tower's glass ledge cracks under tourists' feet
If this California family wasn't scared of heights before, they might be now. One of the glass enclosures on the Skydeck of Chicago's Willis Tower cracked while right under their feet. NBC 5 reports that the family heard the glass enclosure, which juts out 103 stories above ground, creaking when they stepped on it late Wednesday night. They immediately stepped off it when they realized what was happening.
A building spokesman said the family was never in harm, despite the alarming photos. "Occasionally this happens, but that's because we designed it this way," he said. "Whatever happened last night is a result of the protective coating doing what it's designed to."
The crack didn't affect the box's structural integrity, and it's scheduled to be replaced today. --Jordan Valinsky
