Federal food inspectors have ordered the recall of 1.8 million pounds of ground beef due to possible E. coli contamination. The meat in question, which was meant for restaurant use, was shipped to Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio from the Wolverine Packing Company in Detroit.
So far, there have been 11 cases of E. coli in four states linked to the contaminated beef. The E. coli bacteria causes a variety of stomach-sickening ailments including cramps, dehydration, and bloody diarrhea. The USDA reports the meat in question was produced from March 31 to April 18.
