A 4.4-magnitude earthquake just rattled Los Angeles

An earthquake was strongly felt across Southern California this morning. The shallow, 4.4-magnitude quake occurred at 6:25 a.m. PDT, according to the U.S. Geological Society. The epicenter was six miles from Beverly Hills and seven miles from Santa Monica.

There have been no reports of injuries or damage so far. The Los Angeles Police Department helpfully reminded people not to call them about the earthquake because they are "well aware of it." Below is a picture of a seismograph that recorded the shake, from KNBC-TV. --Jordan Valinsky
