Here are the most expensive states for smokers

We all know smoking cigarettes takes a toll on your health, and in honor of Tobacco-Free Awareness Week, WalletHub is here to remind you that smoking also takes a toll on your wallet.
How much of a toll, though, depends on where you live. In its analysis of "The Financial Cost of Smoking by State," WalletHub determined that Alaska, followed by Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island are the states where the cost of being a smoker is the highest.
In the South, however, it's easier to keep up the nicotine habit without breaking the bank: South Carolina has the lowest smoking costs, according to the study, followed by West Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, and Georgia.

The financial cost of smoking was determined using a formula that took into account a number of factors, including tobacco costs, related healthcare costs, income loss due to smoking-related issues, and increased insurance costs.
The study also found that the financial cost of smoking is about $1.4 million over a smoker's lifetime. See the full details of the study at WalletHub.
