Apple is mercifully pulling the plug on iPhoto. Here's a look at Apple Photos.

Goodbye, iPhoto

If you have more than a few hundred photos, OS X's bundled photo-management program, iPhoto, is slow. On Thursday, Apple gave developers their first chance to play around with iPhoto's long-awaited replacement, Photos. The new app, coming to the masses this spring, plays better with iCloud and your mobile iDevices, has some new editing tools and iOS-inspired aesthetic changes, and most importantly, according to Casey Newton at The Verge, it's "super fast, even with a large library of photos."

All your albums should migrate over from iPhoto, but fans of Aperture might be disappointed that Photos is replacing Apple's professional-grade photo app, too. The Verge's Dan Seifert has a video tour of Photos below. —Peter Weber
