Chinese state media reported Monday that China's President Xi Jinping is planning his first state visit to the U.S.
Cui Tiankai, China's ambassador to the U.S., told China Daily that he is discussing the visit with U.S. officials, but a date for the trip has not been set. He expects the visit will occur later this year.
On Friday, U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice said the U.S. has invited Xi and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for state visits. Xi and Obama last met in Beijing in November during an Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
