U.S. Embassy in Yemen suspends operations

U.S. officials have announced that the U.S. Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen's capital, is suspending its operations due to security concerns.

The U.S. ambassador in Sanaa will reportedly leave the country by Wednesday. The U.S. will reportedly ask the embassies of Turkey and Algeria to oversee U.S. interests in Yemen during the U.S. Embassy's closure.

The news comes as Shiite rebels seized the Bayda province on Tuesday, shortly after they dissolved the parliament and took control of the government . Bayda is key for the Houthi rebels because it is a gateway to the country's south and east, which aren't yet in rebel control.
