Eddie Ray Routh, the 27-year-old former U.S. Marine on trial for killing American Sniper author Chris Kyle and Chad Littlefield two years ago, was found guilty of capital murder by a Texas jury on Tuesday.

Following the announcement of the verdict, the judge sentenced Routh to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His attorneys argued that he should have been found innocent by reason of insanity, BuzzFeed reports. Kyle, the inspiration for the movie American Sniper, and Littlefield were killed on Feb. 2, 2013, at a shooting range in Texas.
