Rutgers has banned all fraternity parties
Rutgers University officials announced Monday that the school is banning all fraternity and sorority house parties.
Fraternities and sororities will be required to hold events at off-campus sites, where third parties serve alcohol, for the rest of the spring semester, NJ.com reports. The announcement follows a number of alcohol-related incidents that occurred on campus.
A Rutgers student died of alcohol poisoning at a Delta Kappa Epsilon house party in September. Rutgers suspended Delta Kappa Epsilon, pending a university review of the fraternity chapter. Another Rutgers student, who is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, was hospitalized last fall due to intoxication, and the chapter was "indefinitely suspended," NJ.com notes.
