Passengers sue Amtrak over deadly train derailment
Four passengers involved in last week's fatal derailment of an Amtrak train in Philadelphia have filed suit against the railroad service, alleging the train traveled so "outrageously fast" as to be unsafe.
"Had proper precautions and safety measures been implemented by Amtrak and the train operator, this tragedy would have been prevented and countless innocent lives would not have been devastated," an attorney for the group said in the suit.
Filed Monday in Philadelphia, the federal lawsuit says the four passengers sustained broken ribs and torn ligaments in the crash; one of them, a Spanish citizen, nearly severed her arm. The suit seeks unspecified damages.

The suit is the second in connection with the derailment, which killed eight people and injured more than 200. An Amtrak employee, Bruce Phillips, filed suit last week against his employer over injuries sustained in the accident.
