Missing former White House chef found dead in New Mexico

Former White House Executive Chef Walter Scheib, 61, was found dead in a river near Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico. He had been missing since June 13.

Scheib was thought to be hiking in the valley after his Subaru was found at the Yerba Canyon trailhead last week. According to Taos News, coordinators believe Scheib might have reached the canyon's summit and encountered problems during the descent.

First hired by then-First Lady Hillary Clinton in 1994, Scheib served as head chef in the Clinton and Bush White Houses until he stepped down in 2005. He was largely credited with bringing New American cuisine to Pennsylvania Avenue. He even "had the temerity to serve American wines," former Camp David chef Martin Mongiello told Taos News.
