On July 21, Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) will enter the GOP presidential race, making the announcement at his alma mater, Ohio State University.

Advisers told Politico that the governor, who was reelected in November, "combines establishment appeal with a conservative record." After his kickoff rally, Kasich will visit Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Michigan. His chief strategist will be John Weaver, who worked with John McCain in 2000 and 2008 and Jon Huntsman in 2012, and the lead consultant for his super PAC, New Day for America, will be Fred Davis, who also worked for McCain in 2008 and Huntsman in 2012. Kasich spent 18 years as a congressman, and was chairman of the House Budget Committee.
