On Wednesday, a massive truck bomb exploded at a popular food and produce market in the Sadr City section of Baghdad, killing at least 76 people and wounding at least 212 more. "A refrigerator truck packed with explosives blew up inside Jamila market at around 6 a.m.," police officer Muhsin al-Saedi told Reuters. "Many people were killed and body parts were thrown on top of nearby buildings."
In statements online, Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack on the heavily Shiite neighborhood, which it called a bastion of the "charlatan army" of Shiite militias fighting ISIS alongside Iraqi government troops.
