IndyCar driver Justin Wilson is in a coma after sustaining a severe head injury during the final laps of Sunday's ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway.

USA Today reports that it appears Wilson, 37, was hit by a piece of debris after driver Sage Karam crashed in front of him during the race. Wilson veered to the left and hit the wall, and had to be extricated by safety workers. In a statement, the Verizon IndyCar Series said that Wilson is in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Health Network Cedar Crest Hospital in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Karam was able to get out of his vehicle on his own, and had an injury to his right foot.
