Jailed Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis was released by a federal judge Tuesday with a major caveat: She can't interfere with her deputy clerks issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. If she does interfere based on her personal religious beliefs, the judge wrote that he'd weigh "appropriate sanctions."
After her release, Davis said she wouldn't authorize her office to issue licenses if her name remains on them, so she may just end up in hot water with the court again. But Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, who was in Kentucky supporting Davis, has her back. While he wouldn't advise her on what to do when she returns to work tomorrow, Huckabee did volunteer to help her out in a rather unconventional manner.
"That's a legal question for her," he said. "I've already told her that if somebody needs to go to jail, I'm willing to go in her place. And I mean that."
