Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) announced Monday he is suspending his presidential campaign immediately, and recommended to his fellow Republicans that they "consider doing the same" so the party can rally around one candidate.
Walker said that when he was young, he was drawn to President Ronald Reagan because he was a "Republican and a conservative," and he appreciated his "eternal optimism." Now, Walker said, "the debate taking place in the Republican party is not focused on the optimistic view of America. It's drifted into personal attacks. Walker initially polled well, but his popularity has declined in recent weeks. In a CNN/ORC poll released Sunday, Walker received less than one-half of 1 percent of the vote.
