Whole Foods wants to lower prices — so it's laying off 1,500 people

Whole Foods will lay off 1,500 people — or 1.6 percent of its workforce — over the next two months, the company said in a statement Monday. The decision comes as part of the company's "ongoing commitment to lower prices for its customers."
Everyone's favorite $6 asparagus water vendor announced in May that it will open a new chain with cheaper prices geared toward younger shoppers.
In the last year, Whole Foods has added more than 9,000 jobs, USA Today reports. The company said it expects many employees that were let go will be able to land different Whole Foods positions at new and existing stores.
