In Indiana over the weekend, the hunter became the hunted when a woman was shot by her dog, the aptly named Trigger.

Police say 25-year-old Allie Carter was hunting for waterfowl in Kosciusko County when she placed her 12-gauge shotgun down on the ground. The safety was not on, and Trigger stepped on the shotgun — accidentally, police believe — releasing her namesake and shooting Carter in the foot. Carter was taken to the hospital for injuries to her left foot and toes, and has been treated and released, The Associated Press reports.

Indiana Conservation Officers are using the incident as an excuse to remind gun owners that it's important to use the safety mechanism and to always make sure the firearm muzzle is pointed in a safe direction. I am using the incident to remind dog owners not to tempt fate and stick to safe names like Fluffy and Fido.
