Chris Christie proudly tweeted that he doesn't read The New York Times. Then he got trolled.
The New York Times had some rough news to break to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Thursday afternoon, publishing an editorial brutally titled, "Gov. Christie, Time to Go Home." In it, the Times editorial board asserts that "this is [Christie's] moment, all right: to go home and use the rest of his term to clean out the barn, as Speaker John Boehner would say."
But Christie doesn't know that yet. Because Christie can't read the article.
There's a lot to unpack here. Is it a cry for help? A brag that he doesn't read the paper of record? Is he tweeting directly to the Times because he's hoping for a free subscription? Or is this a PSA that, despite polling at 1 percent nationally, Christie will in fact overcome the odds? The motive remains unclear.
