Two deadly explosions believed to be suicide bombings tore through the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon on Thursday, killing at least 37 and wounding around 180 others, according to the most recent reports from the Lebanese Red Cross. The attack occurred in a neighborhood known to be a stronghold of the Hezbollah militia.

Hezbollah, which the U.S and Israel consider to be a terrorist group, has backed President Bashar al-Assad in the conflict in neighboring Syria. Sunni Muslims, who have targeted southern Beirut in the past, tend to back the Syrian opposition.
