The University of Missouri's Board of Curators reportedly plans to name law professor and civil rights attorney Mike Middleton as interim president Thursday. Middleton will replace former president Tim Wolfe, who resigned Monday amid protests that he had not adequately addressed race-related issues on campus. Middleton, currently the university's deputy chancellor emeritus and a professor of law, will be the university's second black president.
Middleton previously served as an attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and he is on the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Fairness under appointment by the Missouri Supreme Court.
The official announcement is expected to come at a Thursday afternoon news conference.
